Embodiment Construction

[0035] figure 1 A communication system 100 is illustrated in accordance with some embodiments. The communication system 100 includes a first Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) 102 including a core network 112 and a second PLMN 101 including a core network 111 . In the example shown, PLMN 101 also includes a radio access network (RAN) 121 and PLMN 102 includes RAN 122 . Also shown are a wireless communication device (WCD) 104 (also sometimes referred to as user equipment (UE) 104 ) and a third party server (TPS) 132 (eg, an application server or SCS). WCD 104 may use PLMN 101 or PLMN 102 to access packet data network 110, such as the Internet. WCD 104 may be a mobile communication device (eg, a smartphone) or a generally non-mobile communication device (eg, an MTC device such as a sensor). A third party operating TPS 132 may wish to monitor WCD 104 (eg, monitor the location of WCD 104 or monitor some other aspect of WCD 104 ).

Abstract

The invention relates to a system and methods for providing monitoring services. According to the invention, embodiments herein relate to systems and methods for providing monitoring services. According to a first aspect of the embodiments herein, a method for providing a monitoring service is provided. The method comprises receiving, at an aggregator proxy function, APF in a first Public Land Mobile Network, PLMN, a first event report transmitted by a monitoring function in the first PLMN. The first event report comprising first event information related to a monitoring event, and a request identifier. Further, the method also includes receiving, at the APF, a second event report transmitted by a monitoring function in the first PLMN. The second event report comprising second event information related to the monitoring event, and said request identifier. After receiving the first and second event reports, the APF transmitting an aggregate event report to a report receiving function not in the first PLMN. Such a report receiving function may be e.g. an SCEF implemented in a in a second PLMN that is separate and distinct from the first PLMN or at an external business partner. The aggregate event report comprising at least one of the first event information and the second event information, and said request identifier. Further, the embodiments herein relate to a corresponding aggregator proxy function (APF), a corresponding method in a monitoring function, and a corresponding monitoring function node.

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments herein relate to systems and methods for providing monitoring services. Background technique [0002] It is often desirable to include event monitoring capabilities in the network. That is, one or more monitoring nodes (ie, nodes (virtual or real) implementing monitoring functions) in the network should be able to detect and report events (including location). [0003] As an example, a trusted third party may wish to monitor the location of a particular communication device (eg, smartphone, machine type communication (MTC) device, etc.). Accordingly, an application operated by a third party may send a request to a node in the communication device's home network to initiate location monitoring of the communication device. The node, after authenticating the third party server, may then send instructions to other nodes within the communication device's home network to detect and report a change in location of the communication device.
