The iron oxide desulfurizer comprises steel-making red mud as a raw material, bentonite as a binder, styrene as a pore forming agent, potassium persulfate as an initiator, sodium bicarbonate and sodium hydroxide as a pH regulating agent, and deionized water as a solvent. The preparation method comprises the following steps: firstly preparing a polystyrene microsphere emulsion as the pore forming agent, then mixing the polystyrene microsphere emulsion with steel-making red mud, bentonite, and calcium stearate, kneading and extruding into strips, drying and carrying out high temperature sintering on the strips to obtain the iron oxide desulfurizer having controllable texturalproperties. The iron oxide desulfurizer having controllable textural properties is brownish red. The use of the steel-making red mud in the method is a recycling of waste, thus the cost is low. The preparation method has the advantages of short process flow, few devices used herein, detailed and accurate data, high product purity, high desulfuration efficiency which can reach 98 %, short regeneration time of the desulfurizer, and good regeneration effect.
