Equine fitness monitoring

InactiveUS20060173367A1SaddlesCatheterDiseasePhysiology
Apparatus for determining the health or fitness, under an exercise load, of an animal such a horse comprises: a first sensor (incorporated in module (3) and having electrodes (5, 6)), positioned in blanket (1) under saddle (2a) of a horse, generating physiological data, e.g. breathing or heart rate, blood pressure or flow, temperature, etc; a second sensor, also incorporated in module (3), for generating position data, e.g. a GPS sensor having antenna (11). By using an algorithm, a fitness indicator such as velocity at a heart rate of 200 beats per minute (V-200) can then be derived using data from the sensors. Lameness, disease or poor physiological potential of the animal can thus be identified.

Transportable saddle rack and equipment carrier

A saddle rack for transporting one or more saddles includes a vertical frame attached to a base frame, where the base frame has an expandable portion that telescopes out from the vertical frame. Saddle arms for supporting saddles are pivotally connected to the front of the vertical frame allowing them to swing into horizontal position and then fold down into a vertical position. Also attached to the vertical frame is a strut that is also pivotally connected to the front face of the vertical frame. The strut swings up to support the saddle arm when it is in the horizontal position. The saddle rack also includes a locking mechanism for attaching the saddle rack to a standard dolly. The use of the saddle rack in combination with the dolly allows for easy transport of the saddle rack. The saddle rack also has portions for carrying additional accessories needed for use of equestrians including a tack holder, a basket and a muck bucket clip.

Moisture-wicking saddle pad

InactiveUS7219486B1Increase chanceEnhances and optimizes wicking and absorption of perspirationSaddlesTraction harnessCushioningFiber
The saddle pads have a lower covering layer of a comfort fabric formed from a passive performance fiber. In use this layer lies against the back and sides of a horse and acts to wick perspiration from the horse. The perspiration is then absorbed by the cushioning layer which consists of a polymeric foam backing. The foam backing is, in turn, covered by another hydrophilic layer, which in one embodiment is synthetic sheepskin and in the other is a cloth cover. The saddle pads are constructed with a withers relief gusset.

Force sensing device

A force or pressure sensing device comprises one or more magnets (12, 406) resiliently held spaced from one or more magnetic sensors (14) such that pressure on the device displaces the magnets (12, 406) relative to the magnetic field sensors (14). The device may be incorporated into an insole (100, 110, 400) of a shoe, or integrated into a shoe, or integrated into a seat, cushion, mattress or saddle. The device includes one or more magnetic focussing elements (18) on the opposite side of the magnetic field sensor (14) from the magnets (12, 406) to focus and condition the magnetic field passing through the sensor (10, 14). The magnetic focussing elements (18) may be permanent magnets (406) or magnetic materials having a high magnetic permeability such as mu-metals. Additional magnetic focussing elements (18) may be placed adjacent to the magnets (12, 406). Plural magnetic field sensors (14) can be arranged in a symmetrical arrangement in a plane below the one or more magnets (12, 406) so that shear forces applied to the device causes lateral relative displacement of the magnet (406) and magnetic field sensors (14) changing the magnetic field sensed by the magnetic field sensors (14). The device can also include a motion detector such as an accelerometer which may be integral with the magnetic field sensor (14).

Horse protection equipment ventilation structure

A horse protection equipment ventilation structure, the design of which specifically provides for aeration and ventilation at the horse-equipment contact area during the usage of saddles, heel protectors (boots), headgear, and other horse protection applications to eliminate perspiratory suppression and discomfort problems due to over tightening. The structural design features a ventilation pad that is assembled to a predetermined position on the interior surface of various horse protection equipment of assorted shape. The ventilation pad is fabricated of a tactile-feel, exceptional quality resilient material, which in addition to a plurality of arrayed vent holes, has various protruding patterns of predetermined shape formed on its interior surface. Furthermore, assorted reticulations and indentations are disposed on the protruding patterns. When protection equipment integrating the invention herein is fastened onto the body of a horse, the material characteristics of the ventilation pad enable the movement of the horse to generate opening, closure, contact, and separation that increases airflow which optimizes ventilation. As such, the present invention improves the prior art shortcomings of perspiratory suppression and discomfort problems resulting from the over tightening of horse protection equipment onto horses.
