Depth gauge

A depth gauge for measuring the depth of blind holes in bones and / or nails inserted into bones. The measurement tool comprises: a probe with an abutment at its end to engage against the distal edge of the blind hole; a tubular body; and a grooved insert. After the probe, lying into the tubular body, is positioned through the blind hole to be measured, the grooved insert is slid forward inside the tubular body, surrounding the probe, and pushing the probe sideward, towards the blind hole wall. When probe and groove insert are retracted together, they firmly engage against the distal bone wall. The tubular housing is then pushed forward until it abuts against the proximal bone wall, allowing even in small diameter holes, an accurate reading of hole depth on the scale located at the rear end of the probe.

Fastener grip length selector

A fastener grip length selector includes a housing having a first section and a second section, and a gauge fitted with the second section of the housing and including a spindle that reaches into the first section of the housing. The fastener grip length selector enables the precise determination of a grip length of a fastener to be installed in a particular fastener hole while a temporary fastener is installed in that particular fastener hole. The fastener grip length selector is suitable for, but not limited to, applications in the aerospace industry. The fastener grip length selector may be used, for example, during the installation process of an aircraft airframe assembly. Using the method for precisely measuring a thickness of an assembly in clamped-up condition enables the determination of the length of a blind fastener hole with high accuracy while a temporary fastener is installed.

Gauge for a tire

A gauge for measuring non-skid tread depth and sidewall bulge / indentation includes a gauge body having a spaced apart tire-engaging lower legs and a guide slot extending along the body. Non-skid and bulge scales are provided along opposite sides of the guide slot and a reciprocally sliding slide member is mounted to reciprocally move within the guide slot. The slide member has scale indicia and a tire-engaging probe tip that extends between the spaced apart body legs. The probe tip is extended by the slide member until brought into engagement with a portion of the tire to be measured. A reading is visually made by noting alignment between the slide member indicia and the non-skid or bulge scales opposite thereto. The gauge may operate alternatively as a dual function gauge for measurement of sidewall bulge (or indentation) and tire non-skid tread depth.

A feature of a countersink in a hole, such as the diameter, is measured by a gauge having a self centering, spherically shaped probe which shifts laterally upon engagement with the countersink side walls to as to align itself with the central axis of the hole. The gauge includes an outer tube gripped by a user during the measurement, and an axially displaceable shaft within the tube that drives an indicator dial. The shaft is coupled with the probe by a flexible connector which transmits axial displacement of the probe to the shaft but allows slight lateral movement of the probe relative to the shaft, permitting the probe to become centered within the countersink.
