68 results about "Cutting balloon" patented technology

A cutting balloon is an angioplasty device invented by Barath et al. used in percutaneous coronary interventions. It has a special balloon tip with small blades, that are activated when the balloon is inflated. This procedure is different from Rotoblation (Percutaneous Transluminal Rotational Atherectomy or PCRA) whereby a diamond tipped device spins at high revolutions to cut away calcific (chalky) atheroma usually prior to coronary stenting. Boston Scientific's Flextome is the most widely used cutting balloon.

Directional cutting balloon

A directional cutting balloon for incising an eccentric lesion in a body conduit includes an inflatable balloon having a distal end and a proximal end. The distal balloon end is attached to a distal tube and the proximal balloon end is attached to a proximal tube. The distal tube is formed with a guidewire lumen and substantially centered along a guidewire axis. The balloon, which is typically formed with a cylindrical working section that defines a balloon axis, is offset from the guidewire axis. Specifically, when the balloon is inflated, the balloon axis is aligned parallel to and offset from the guidewire axis. One or more elongated incising elements are mounted longitudinally on the balloon. During a balloon inflation, the balloon expands eccentrically relative to the guidewire axis to thereby advance the incising element in a pre-selected direction and into an eccentric lesion.

Device and method for converting a balloon catheter into a cutting balloon catheter

A lesion treating device for converting a standard balloon catheter into a cutting balloon catheter is provided. The device includes a longitudinal housing such as a tube which is sized to be inserted into a lumen of the balloon catheter and cutting wires disposed within the longitudinal housing in an undeployed position. When the longitudinal housing is moved relative to the cutting wires, the cutting wires extend out of the longitudinal housing. The balloon of the balloon catheter is then moved under the deployed cutting wires and inflated to convert the standard balloon catheter into the cutting balloon catheter.

Balloon refolding device

A device for folding a balloon of a balloon catheter onto a catheter tube during a balloon deflation includes a first band positioned on the catheter tube distal to the balloon and a second band positioned on the catheter tube proximal to the balloon. One or more elastic member(s) are attached to and extend between the bands for interaction with the outer surface of the balloon. During a balloon deflation, the elastic members cooperate to fold the balloon into pleats. When used on a cutting balloon, each elastic member is formed with a slot to allow a respective blade of the cutting balloon to extend through the elastic member. The elastic members fold the cutting balloon into a configuration in which each blade becomes nestled within a pair of adjacent balloon pleats to prevent the blade from inadvertently incising tissue during an in-vivo movement of the balloon catheter.

Cutting balloon and balloon catheter

The invention provides a cutting balloon which comprises a balloon body and a cutting wire, wherein the cutting wire is arranged in the radial direction of the outer surface of the balloon body, the two ends of the cutting wire are respectively fixed on the two ends of the balloon body, and the cutting wire comprises a foldable structure. Compared with the prior art, the cutting balloon has betterpassing ability as the flexible cutting wire is arranged on the surface of the cutting balloon; furthermore, the cutting balloon can cut plaque tissues in expansion and has small damage to inner membranes; meanwhile, the cutting wire is fixed to the surface of the cutting balloon or can slide in the telescopic direction, so that the problem of displacement or winding in a cutting process is avoided; furthermore, the foldable structure not only can provide axial length compensation for the cutting wire in expansion of the balloon, but also can improve friction between the balloon body and blood vessel walls; thus, the balloon is prevented from displacement.

Textured balloons

A cutting balloon for use in PTCA and PTA procedures and methods for manufacturing cutting balloons are disclosed. One or more surfaces of the cutting balloon are formed with a non-smooth surface texture to improve adhesion between cutting blades and the inflatable balloon, to improve traction between the cutting balloon and the arterial wall, or to prevent inadvertent balloon perforation by a cutting blade. Textures, which can include a knurling texture and a nodular texture can be formed on the inflatable balloon surface directly using laser ablation. Alternatively, the texture can be formed on a mold surface used to mold the inflatable balloon from a parison. Mold surfaces can be textured using a laser photolithography process, sandblasting or a high-speed tool such as a diamond saw.

Medicine-carrying cutting balloon dilating catheter

The invention relates a medicine-carrying cutting balloon dilating catheter. The medicine-carrying cutting balloon dilating catheter comprises a cutting balloon dilating catheter body and a medicine coating, wherein the cutting balloon dilating catheter body comprises a balloon, the surface of the balloon is provided with a plurality of blades, and the medicine coating is coated on the surfaces of the balloon and the blades. The medicine-carrying cutting balloon dilating catheter can cut plaques in vessels and fully dilate to be well adhered to arterial walls by pressing the plaques, so that not only subsequent inflammatory responses are reduced, but also the dilation of lumen reduces the restenosis rate. Besides, the medicine coating can restrain the intimal hyperplasia of the vessel inner surface which is damaged by squeezing. Particularly for a bended complex lesion location where a stent cannot reach, the superior advantages of the medicine-carrying cutting balloon dilating catheter are significant.
