Problems solved by technology

Landfills take up valuable space and create aesthetic issues involving both "visual pollution" and odors associated with waste
Another problem with landfills is the presence of toxic and environmentally unacceptable compounds in the form of gases, or liquids or solids dissolved in liquids

Embodiment Construction

[0034] Throughout the specification and claims, unless specifically stated otherwise, the pressure is approximately ambient, ie, approximately atmospheric pressure. If not specifically defined differently, any indicated boiling point and / or boiling point range is the boiling point or boiling point range at atmospheric pressure. % of any composition is by weight when referring to solids or liquids and by volume when referring to gases, if not otherwise specified.

[0035] figure 1 is a schematic illustration of an embodiment of the invention in which influent is introduced via a waste line 1 into a waste pre-treatment area 2 .

[0036] The pretreatment zone of the illustrated embodiment comprises an autoclave treatment system 3 into which the MSW in line 1 is first introduced. Autoclaves suitable for this purpose are supplied, for example, by the AeroThermal Group (UK). The autoclave system preferably comprises a series of rotary autoclaves arranged in parallel, wherein the ...

Abstract

A method and plant for thermal treatment and chemical transformation of waste comprising natural and synthetic carbonaceous materials for generation of a fuel gas for further use is described. Pyrolysis gas and solid waste from a thermolysis and pyrolysis reactor (40), is further processed to produce a fuel gas having a substantially stable WOBBE index.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the treatment of carbonaceous materials, such as waste, and more particularly waste of predominantly organic origin, such as biomass, municipal solid waste (MSW), plastics, rubber, and the like. More specifically, the present invention relates to improving the conversion of such carbonaceous materials into useful energy sources such as electricity or fuels. Background technique [0002] Waste materials include a wide variety of materials and can include anything from relatively homogeneous materials to heterogeneous mixtures of highly variable composition. Industrial waste from one source may be extremely homogeneous, while other industrial and domestic wastes are mixtures of different compositions. Household waste can include any of the following: food, covering both animal and vegetable origin; paper and other products made from plant fibers, such as fabrics; construction materials, including both wood products and w...
