Board-to-board (BTB) connectors are used to connect printed circuit boards (PCB), electronic components that contain a conductive pattern printed on the surface of the insulating base in an accurate and repeatable manner. Each terminal on a BTB connector is connected to a PCB. A BTB connector includes housing and a specific number of terminals. The terminal is made from a conductive material (mostly copper alloy), and plated to improve conductivity and antirust. Terminals transmit the current/signal between PCBs connected by BTB; the housing is made of insulating material (mostly plastic).

A board-to-board connector assembly with function of EMI shielding shields includes a receptacle connector and a plug connector. The receptacle connector includes a receptacle housing and a first shielding shell fixed to and encircling the receptacle housing. The plug connector includes a plug housing and a pair of second shielding shells respectively having a base plate and a pair of arms extending vertically from two ends of the base plate for hugging the two opposite end portions of the plug housing. The base plate contacts the elastic arms of the first shielding shell. At least one of the first and second shielding shells has a grounding means for soldering to a corresponding printed circuit board.

Board to board connector assembly having improved plug and receptacle contacts

A board to board connector assembly (100) includes a plug connector (10) and a receptacle connector (20) for receiving the plug connector along a mating direction. The plug connector includes a plug insulative housing (11) and a number of plug contacts (12) received in the plug insulative housing. The receptacle connector includes a receptacle insulative housing (21) and a number of receptacle contacts (23) received in the receptacle insulative housing. Each of the plug contact and the receptacle contact includes a main portion (121, 121′, 231, 231′), a soldering pad (120, 120′, 230, 230′), a retention beam (122, 122′, 232, 232′), and a contacting beam (123, 123′, 233, 233′). The contacting beam of the plug contact has an inclined face (124, 124′) and a securing portion (125, 125′) protruding toward the retention beam. The contacting beam of the receptacle contact has a tail portion (235, 235′) angularly extending towards the retention beam. The plug contact inclined face initially guidingly engages with the receptacle contact tail portion and finally the receptacle contact tail portion is positioned between the securing portion and the main portion of the plug contact when the plug and receptacle connectors are mated to each other.

Board-to-board connector assembly

A board-to-board connector assembly for connecting two printed circuit boards together includes a female connector and a male connector. The female connector has a plurality of walls to form a mating channel and a pedestal formed in the mating channel. At least one locking projection is arranged on top portion of the wall and extends to the mating channel. The male connector includes a bottom board and a plurality of side boards to form a male housing coupling with the pedestal of the female connector. While the male connector is inserted in the female connector, the locking projection presses the bottom board of the male connector. Thereby, the female connector and the male connector of the board-to-board connector assembly are firmly engaged together.
