Abstract

According to the method, a remote backup server needs to be prepared firstly, and virtual machine rear input output (IO) read and write are stopped temporarily in backup; practical occupation size of a virtual machine block device is read by use of a qemu tool chain; the size is determined by use of a dd command so as to copy the virtual machine block device to a temporary file; the temporary file is copied to a remote backup server by use of an rsync tool; and finally, the virtual machine rear IO read and write are recovered, and the temporary file is deleted, then remote backup is finished. After the virtual machine or a host machine fails, the virtual machine cannot recover; the business is interrupted in virtual machine backup, and the storage space is wasted. The remote online backup method for the virtual machine overcomes the above defects, and is applicable to remote online backup of the virtual machine.
