Problems solved by technology

However, the application of traditional fungicide and bactericide compounds has produced a series of problems, such as the emergence of drug resistance (Brent, K.J., Hollomon, D.W. (2007) Fungicide resistance: the assessment of risk. FRAC Monograph No. 1 (2 nd edition), Croplife International, Brussels, Belgium) or pesticide residues in food and are therefore becoming more and more restricted in terms of legal regulations

Embodiment 1

[0016] Example 1. Identification of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) produced by pathogenic fungi.

[0017] Various fungi that are pathogenic to plants and fruits such as Botrytis cinerea, Penicillium digitarum, Fusarium oxysporum or total Extraction of VOCs from 96-hour cultures of Mucor racemosus. By gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technology, Wiley08 and NIST05 libraries were queried to complete the desorption and identification of VOCs bound to fibers. Compounds specifically identified in the species Mucorales racemosus are shown in Table 1 .

[0019]

[0020] The results obtained from this fungus showed high agreement among the various species of fungi studied.

Embodiment 2

[0021] Example 2. Inhibition of the growth of the fungus Botrytis cinerea and the bacterium Erwinia carotovora by VOCs of natural origin.

[0022] The antifungal and antibacterial activity of the VOCs obtained in Example 1 was tested by bioassays in sealed vials in which the microorganisms were grown while exposing them to the compounds under test in different concentrations in gaseous form . VOCs have a purity higher than 95% by weight. Calculated IC 50 (50% inhibitory concentration), MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) and MLC (minimum lethal concentration).

Abstract

The present invention relates to a composition with fungicidal and bactericidal activity, which comprises volatile organic compounds (VOCs) obtained from plants and microorganisms, in which said VOCs are C4-C12 fatty alcohols or cyclic alcohols or phenol-derived compounds, or terpene-derived compounds, and also derivatives and mixtures thereof. Furthermore, the present invention likewise relates to the use of said compositions in the protection of agricultural crops, in post-harvest treatments, in food preservation and in the disinfection of facilities and equipment.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to fungicidally and bactericidally active compositions comprising volatile organic compounds (VOCs) obtained from plants and microorganisms, wherein the VOCs are fatty alcohols with between 4 and 12 carbon atoms such as 2-ethyl- 1-hexanol, 3-nonanol, 1-octen-3-ol, hexanol, 3-methyl-1-butanol, isobutanol, 3-octanol, (Z)-3-hexene- 1-alcohol, 1-penten-3-ol, ethanol, their isomers, derivatives and mixtures, and cyclic alcohols such as menthol or from phenols such as phenethyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol, 2,4- Compounds derived from di-tert-butylphenol, their isomers, derivatives and mixtures, or compounds derived from terpenes such as isoborneol, 2-methylisoborneol, 2-norbornanol, caryophyllene ), aristolene, alpha-bergamotene, naphthalene, alpha-chlorophyllene, myrcene, a-phellandrene and b-phellandrene, limonene, linalool, carvacrol, thyme Phenols, camphorterpenes, geraniol, nerol, and their derivatives and mixtures.
