31 results about "Tablature" patented technology

Tablature (or tabulature, or tab for short) is a form of musical notation indicating instrument fingering rather than musical pitches. Tablature is common for fretted stringed instruments such as the lute, vihuela, or guitar, as well as many free reed aerophones such as the harmonica. Tablature was common during the Renaissance and Baroque eras, and is commonly used today in notating many forms of music.

Music teaching device and method

Methods and apparatus are provided that help users learn to play one or more instruments by employing simplified note recognition techniques, improved feedback, and a simplified keyboard tablature. In one aspect, users are encouraged to play specified notes within a specified time frame. The pitch and duration can be represented in any suitable manner, but are advantageously displayed together as a single icon (232A–232F). Preferably, the icon has an elongated shape in which the horizontal length correlates with duration of the note, and its vertical position on a display correlates with a pitch of the note. Notes can thus be represented by elongated lines, bars, ellipses, or even missiles or arrows. In another aspect, an improved musical tablature effectively clusters juxtaposed black keys (412A, 412C, 412E) and white keys (412B, 412D) on a display for easier visualization.

The system hardware for encoding the information includes string motion monitoring, and optionally a hand motion and finger positioning sensor, such as a data glove or a video motion capture system, for simultaneously registering the actions of the guitarist while playing the piece. The software comprises algorithms for determining note pitch and duration, and for extracting playing techniques from the data being collected. Multimedia player software is also described which renders a visual and audio output for the Tablature Plus encoded file, wherein the encoded playing techniques are represented within the display output. The system is adaptable to instruction for any instrument.

The musical chromatic scale arrangement of colors is then applied to various instruments. Diagrams representing the various note / color patterns as they appear on the various color-coded instruments are also provided. Scale and / or chord charts or diagrams for various instruments are also provided. The inventive color code is also applied to tablature, as well as to inventive forms of music notation.

Music score display apparatus with controlled exhibit of connective sign

A music score with notes and signs in musical notation is displayed on the screen of a computer system using musical data representing events of notes and signs for a musical performance. The score is editable by moving a note from the exhibited position to another position on the screen. In case the moved note is connected with another note by a connective sign such as a slur, a slide, a bending (i.e. choking) and a hammering-on, the connective sign is also moved to the new position of the moved note. When the notes connected by the connective sign cannot be displayed on the same screen window, the connective sign is exhibited in a special fashion to indicate the associated connection. When the score is expressed in a tablature notation, appropriate modifications are employed to indicate correct manipulative operations for the instrument player.

Method for Notating the Locations of the Various Pitches of Stringed Instruments

ActiveUS20210082303A1Effectively accountedMusicPianoSoftware engineering
A method of explicit note-location for stringed instruments is disclosed. The invention synthesizes tablature notation and traditional classical staff notation for more fluid sight-reading of musical pieces. The invention makes explicit the note-locations-on-stringed-instruments of notated pitches. The invention makes possible for string instrument music the explicit denotations for pitch and the location of those pitches on a piano that is the traditional classical staff system of notation. The disclosed invention accomplishes this without obscuring any musical information notated in tablature or staff notation, while adding to staff notation what has been missing for 700-500+ years. The notated music itself becomes easier to read, because no inference or interpretation is required while reading music notated with the invention, as is necessary for use of the current state of the art music notations with stringed-instruments, either in tablature, the classical musical staff, or others.
