Problems solved by technology

[0006] The above two measurement methods measure the service quality of the network from two different angles of delay and packet loss. Their weakness is that the data of the two measurement results are independent, and it is impossible to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the network conditions at that time.
However, in packet networks, the cause of many network failures and performance degradation phenomena cannot be accurately determined from independent measurements of delay or packet loss
For example, packet loss on a packet network may be caused by link errors, packet loss caused by router buffer overflow, or route jitter that makes the TTL lifetime of IP packets 0, resulting in packet loss.

Embodiment Construction

[0077] In order to make the purpose, technical solution and advantages of the present invention clearer, the present invention will be further described in detail below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

[0078] Referring to Fig. 1, introduce test mechanism or method of the present invention: send a series of test streams that are formed by test packets to PAIR, and carry out comprehensive measurement and correlation analysis of time delay and packet loss to it simultaneously, wherein each test packet is to PAIR It is two packets (indicated by 1 and 2 in the figure) back-to-back (that is, the sending interval is 0), and the length of each packet is very small, so the transmission performance of these two packets in the network is regarded as equal. When the packet pair 1 and 2 in the test flow sent by the sending end discards one of the packet 2 (called LOSS PAIR) when passing through an intermediate node (shown as a "packet loss point"), another non-lost packet is...

Abstract

The system is composed of measuring devices (including transceiver, analytic unit, and com. control unit) located at two ends of route of network to be tested, and feedback device (including feedback unit and com. control unit). The transceiver and feedback unit realizes interaction of testing stream between two ends of route of network, and fills in tested data for each packet in testing procedure. Being connected to each other, com. control units at two ends control and implement interaction of test data. Test stream is a string of test packet pair. Each test packet pair is back-to-back two packets with small length. If a packet is lost, the other packet is in use for representing time delay. Thus, time delay and packet lose can be measured. Analytic unit carries out associative analysis for the said two kinds of measured data, and evaluate overall state as well as determines and distinguish different causes for packet lose and congestion fault, and shows analytic result.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a system and method for comprehensive measurement and correlation analysis of time delay and packet loss, and belongs to the technical field of measurement and analysis in fixed packet networks, computer networks and mobile wireless data networks. Background technique [0002] In the operation and maintenance of the Internet, various access methods of customer networks (such as dial-up, ADSL, Ethernet access, optical access, etc.) Congestion caused by excessive network traffic, etc.), so that the overall evaluation and fault judgment of network operation can no longer be solved by a certain network measurement index alone. Therefore, how to comprehensively measure and correlate the two indicators of end-to-end delay and packet loss in the communication network, so as to realize the overall evaluation of the performance of the communication network and the rapid identification of faults, has become the focus of attention of the ...
