Vegetative growth stops completely and the plants become very stiff. Adding 0.001% of boron in the form of boric acid to this silicic acid reduced the toxicity (growth) mentioned above, but the plants were still stiff. A control experiment using only 0.001% boron in 5% propylene glycol showed no effect (control).
