Abstract
A process for oligomerizing isobutene comprises contacting a feedstock comprising isobutene with a catalyst comprising a MCM-22 family molecular sieve under conditions effective to oligomerize the isobutene, wherein said conditions including a temperature from about 45 DEG C to less than 140 DEG C. The isobutene may be a component of a hydrocarbon feedstock containing at least one additional C4 alkene.
Description
Cross References to Related Applications This application claims the benefit of prior US Provisional Application Serial No. 60 / 982,984, filed October 26, 2007, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field The present invention relates to the selective oligomerization of isobutene. Background technique Selective oligomerization of isobutene is an important chemical reaction, especially when isobutene is contained in refinery C 4 Hydrocarbon streams, such as raffinate-1 and raffinate-2. For example, C 4 Linear olefins are attractive feedstocks for the production of octenes using zeolite catalysts, especially because the resulting octenes have less than about 5 wt% triple branching. However, when isobutylene is present in significant amounts (>10 wt%) in the oligomerization feedstock, such as a raffinate-1 containing feedstock, the amount of triple branched octene increases to the point where it is critical for some end uses such as certa...
