Problems solved by technology

[0015] A drawback of the aforementioned glass strands is their hydrolytic sensitivity: this is because the applicant has found that substances and composites reinforced by these strands lose their mechanical properties in wet media, especially under aging conditions at high temperatures strength

Embodiment

[0089] Embodiment 10-15 is comparative example:

[0090] - the glasses of Examples 10, 11 and 13 each contain a high proportion of Na 2 O, K 2 O and Li 2 O: These glasses cannot be fiberized under conventional fiberizing conditions because they have zero or negative (T logη=3 -T liq )value,

[0091] - The glass of Example 12 contains a high proportion of Na 2 O: it can be fibrillated, especially because it contains a suitable content of K 2 O and CaO, but the obtained bundles have low hydrolysis resistance,

[0092] -Examples 14 and 15 respectively correspond to those produced by Saint-Gobain Vétrotex company name and NEG company with marketed under the name Cement Reinforced Glass Beam Composition. The hydrolysis resistance of these bundles is still limited.

[0093] Glass strands according to the invention (Examples 1-9) have excellent hydrolysis resistance compared to glass strands with high Na2O content (Example 12) and commercial strands (Examples 14 and 15). ...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a glass composition resistant to chemical media for the production of reinforcing yarns, said glass comprising the following constituents with the limits defined below, expressed in mol%: 67-72% SiO2; 5-9.5%, preferably > 7.5%, ZrO2; 11-17% R2O (R = Na, K and Li); 0-5.5% Li2O; 0-5.5% K2O; < 10% NA2O; and 3-9% CaO, the composition furthermore containing less 1% of impurities (AI2O3, Fe2O3, Cr2O3, TiO2, MgO, SrO, BaO and P2O5) and being free of F. The invention also relates to the glass yarns obtained from this composition and to composites based on an organic or inorganic material containing such yarns.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to chemically resistant glass compositions for the production of reinforced glass fils, in particular glass compositions with high resistance to hydrolysis, and to organic and inorganic products (or composites) comprising such fils. Background technique [0002] The use of glass strands to strengthen organic and inorganic materials to impart them with better mechanical properties has long been known. Typically, these bundles consist of SiO 2 -Al 2 o 3 -CaO-B 2 o 3 Made of glass (called E-glass), it has excellent hydrolysis resistance and heat resistance. However, this type of glass is not suitable for use in alkaline or acidic media. [0003] The measure to improve the alkali resistance is to use zirconia ZrO 2 Introduced into the glass composition. For example, it is known to use ZrO with high 2 Content of glass to strengthen very alkaline cement (pH value can reach 12.5). [0004] Numerous patents have disclose...
