Method and system for advertisement insertion and playback for stb with pvr functionality

A personal video recorder (PVR) enabled set-top box (STB) may be operable to store an advertisement and associated playback control information received from a media provider into a storage device in the PVR enabled STB, schedule the stored advertisement for viewing based on the associated playback control information. The PVR enabled STB may be operable to insert the stored advertisement into media content for one or more times based on the scheduling. The PVR enabled STB may be operable to cause display of the stored advertisement and the media content in different transport formats. At a forward / reverse playback position during a PVR playback, the PVR enabled STB may be operable to cause display of the stored advertisement when a play count associated with the stored advertisement is less than a count threshold at the forward / reverse playback position.

Contents acquisition system

A contents acquisition system facilitating the downloading is disclosed. A digital TV set presents a scheduled time of acquisition of selected contents against the reservation of contents acquisition. With the arrival of the scheduled acquisition completion time, the TV set downloads the reserved contents out of the multiplexed broadcast data from a broadcast station. The TV set displays a list of the downloaded contents information, and selects the contents of which the printing is desired. The selected contents are output to the printer.

An information distribution and processing system contains a remote site, a sender and a receiving apparatus. The remote site contains a first set of digital data. The sender delivers a second set of digital data to the receiving device. In one embodiment of the present invention, the receiving device contain a timing device for automatically receiving the second set of digital data at predetermined times. The second set of digital data contains a first set of displayable data, a second set of displayable data, at least one non-displayable symbol, and at least one linking reference associated with the second set of displayable data. If desired, a user can select the second set of displayable data. The associated linking reference is sent to the remote site. The associated linking reference is used by the remote site to search for the additional information, and returns the requested information to the user.
