Safety system for a closed compartment of a vehicle

A safety sensing system for a compartment of a vehicle is operable to detect an occupant within the vehicle compartment. The system may be operable to sense ambient conditions in the vehicle compartment, and may generate a control signal in response to the sensed conditions. The system may actuate indicators to notify operators of the vehicle that there is a person or animal detected in the compartment. Optionally the system may open the vehicle compartment in response to a detection of an occupant and the sensed conditions. The safety system includes a false trigger protection means that limits or reduces false detections of a person or animal within the compartment.

Fiber optic auxilliary lighting system

A lighting device is provided that includes a housing containing a light emitting portion of a light emitting diode and a terminus of a fiber optic bundle such that light emission from the light emitting diode is communicated along the optical fibers. The fiber optic bundle has a flattened distal portion with a cross-sectional array of layers of optical fibers. A diffusing layer is attached to the fiber optic bundle overlying the flattened distal portion. The lighting device, upon being overlaid with a graphic and surrounded by a frame through which the graphic is visible, provides a vehicle lighting assembly securable to a vehicle substrate. The vehicle light assembly is particularly well suited for vehicle exterior badging, kick plates and vanity lighting within the vehicle passenger compartment.

Vehicle

Light applied from an illumination unit (212) illuminates a space formed of an accommodation unit (208), and facilitates a user's operation of coupling a charging connector to an electric power-receiving unit (210). When a lid unit (204) is in a closed state, a part of the light applied from the illumination unit (212) toward the accommodation unit (208) transmits through a light transmission member (202) provided at the lid unit (204) and leaks toward a space outside a vehicle body (300). The leaked light enables a user to visually perceive the position of the charging port (200) at a glance even if the lid unit (204) is in the closed state.

Trunk release handle for automobiles

ActiveUS7029138B2Visibility of providingHigh degreeVehicle locksOptical signallingVisibilityGraphics
An emergency trunk release handle for an automobile displays the graphics explaining the use and function of the handle by cutting out the material from the handle. Forming the emergency release handle from a phosphorescent plastic material that can be formed by a molding process, such as injection molding, the cut-out graphics show as darkened areas, when viewed in the dark confines of an automobile trunk, to provide a high degree of visibility for the graphics. The graphics are also visible when seen against the dark carpet in the interior of an opened trunk cavity. The formation of the graphics is accomplished by coring the mold in the configuration of the desired graphics and by forming the plastic material in the mold around the cores. The resultant handle structure is thus formed in a cost effective manner that reduces the process failure potential during the manufacturing of the handle.
