Problems solved by technology

Therefore, the WCDMA system cannot simply indicate to the GSM system when the GSM system is allowed to be active and provide cell measurements in its own time format, because the GSM system cannot interpret the given gaps

Embodiment Construction

[0028] figure 1 The mobile phone 1 is illustrated schematically in front view and the environment in which it operates. The mobile phone 1 includes an antenna 10 mounted on the housing of the device. Alternatively, the mobile phone 1 may have an internal antenna mounted within the device housing. The antenna 10 is electrically connected to the printed circuit board of the mobile phone 1 through an antenna switch, which will be described further below. The mobile phone also includes a display 11 , a keypad 12 , a speaker 13 and a microphone 14 which together provide a man-machine interface for operating the mobile phone 1 .

[0029] Alternatively, the mobile phone 1 may have two separate internal or external antennas (see Figure 2b ), which are appropriate for the radio access technology to which they are applied, which will be discussed below.

[0030]The mobile telephone 1 is adapted to establish a first wireless link 15 with a radio station (base station) 16a of a first...

Abstract

A method for synchronizing measurements in a mobile communication apparatus having a first active radio access means (100) adapted to communicate according to a first radio access technology (RAT) and at least a second passive radio access means (200) adapted to communicate according to a second RAT. A time reference common to the first and the second access means (100) is generated. At least one time schedule is obtained, said schedule indicating at least one time gap wherein the second access means (200) is allowed to be active. The activation time of the schedule is based on the common time reference. An arrangement adapted to generate the common time reference and the time schedule is also disclosed. <IMAGE> <IMAGE>

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method for a mobile radio terminal with dual radio access technology (RAT) capability, and more particularly to a method for providing a common A method of timing events, and a communication device having such synchronization capabilities. Background technique [0002] Different telecommunication systems using different technologies are available. GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications), considered a second generation communication system, is one of the most common systems and is based on TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) Radio Access Technology (RAT). GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and EDGE (Enhanced Data for GSM Evolution) are the data communication technologies of the GSM system, which is also based on TDMA technology. UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) is considered a third generation communication system and is based on WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) RAT. WCDMA tech...
