no. 1 approach

[0072] The first embodiment provides an electrode. This electrode includes a current collector and an active material-containing layer. The active material-containing layer is formed on the current collector. The active material-containing layer contains active material particles and insulator particles. The active material-containing layer has a first surface facing the current collector and a second surface that is the surface of the active material-containing layer. At least a part of the second surface is composed of a part of the insulator particles. In the active material-containing layer, the volume ratio of the insulator particles decreases from the second surface toward the above-mentioned first surface.

[0073] When the electrode of the first embodiment is incorporated in a non-aqueous electrolyte battery, the second surface of the active material-containing layer and the counter electrode can face each other. For example, when the active material-containing lay...

no. 2 approach

[0181] A second embodiment provides a nonaqueous electrolyte battery. The nonaqueous electrolyte battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. At least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode is the electrode of the first embodiment.

[0182] A preferred scheme is that the negative electrode is the electrode of the first embodiment. More preferably, both the positive electrode and the negative electrode are the electrodes of the first embodiment.

[0183] Another solution is that the positive and negative electrodes can form electrodes with a bipolar structure. An electrode of a bipolar structure includes a current collector, and a positive electrode active material-containing layer and a negative electrode active material-containing layer formed on the current collector. The positive electrode active material-containing layer and / or the negative electrode active material-containing layer that can be included in ...

no. 3 approach

[0282] The third embodiment provides a battery pack. This battery pack includes the nonaqueous electrolyte battery of the second embodiment.

[0283] The battery pack of the third embodiment may include one or a plurality of nonaqueous electrolyte batteries (single cells) of the second embodiment. A plurality of non-aqueous electrolyte batteries may be electrically connected in series, parallel, or a combination of series and parallel to form a battery pack. The battery pack of the third embodiment may include a plurality of assembled batteries.

[0284] The battery pack of the third embodiment may further include a protection circuit. The protection circuit has a function of controlling charge and discharge of the nonaqueous electrolyte battery. Alternatively, a circuit included in a device using a battery pack as a power source (for example, electronic equipment, an automobile, etc.) may be used as a protection circuit for the battery pack.

[0285] In addition, the batt...

Abstract

Embodiments of the invention relate to an electrode, a nonaqueous electrolyte battery, a battery pack, and a vehicle. The technical problem to be solved by the invention is to provide an electrode that can realize a nonaqueous electrolyte battery capable of exhibiting excellent lifetime performance. According to one embodiment, an electrode (1) is provided. The electrode (1) includes a current collector (1a) and an active material-containing layer (1b) formed on the current collector (1a). The active material-containing layer (1b) includes active material particles (11) and insulator particles(12). The active material-containing layer (1b) has a first face (1b-1) facing the current collector (1a) and a second face (1b-2) as a surface of the active material-containing layer (1b). At leasta part of the second face (1b-2) is composed of the insulator particles (12). A volume ratio of the insulator particles (12) decreases from the second face (1b-2) toward the first face (1b-1) in the active material-containing layer (1b).

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments of the present invention relate to an electrode, a nonaqueous electrolyte battery, a battery pack, and a vehicle. Background technique [0002] Lithium-ion non-aqueous electrolyte batteries have been widely used in various fields such as electric vehicles, electric power storage, and information equipment as high-energy-density batteries. Along with this, the demand from the market is further increasing for non-aqueous electrolyte batteries, and researches are being actively carried out. [0003] Among them, a non-aqueous electrolyte battery as a power source for an electric vehicle is required to have a high energy density, that is, a high discharge capacity per unit weight or unit volume. [0004] On the other hand, for non-aqueous electrolyte batteries, the greater the discharge capacity per unit weight or unit volume, the higher the safety requirements. One of the solutions to this requirement is the all-solid secondary battery. [0...
