Problems solved by technology

While offering more protection, the smooth, straight tip can easily slide off the stone, prolonging the lithotripsy process as the doctor repeatedly tries to bring the stone into contact with the tip
Furthermore, if the doctor applies too high pressure to the stone via the tip, the vibration of the shaft is dampened and less effective

Embodiment Construction

[0021] The following description is merely exemplary in nature and is not intended to limit the invention, its application or uses. The invention relates to a lithotripter for disintegrating calculus.

[0022] The present invention provides a lithotripsy machine for disintegrating calculi inside a patient's body. The lithotripter may include a lithotripsy device that treats urinary tract stones by crushing them. The lithotripsy device includes, for example, a lithotripsy waveguide shaft configured to transmit an energy form to at least one urinary tract stone, and a lithotripsy device configured to provide signal data for determining optimal energy application sensitivity of the lithotripsy device during treatment with the lithotripsy device. testing equipment. The processor is configured to acquire signal data. The processor has control logic for determining at least one of: a) whether the lithotripsy waveguide shaft is in contact with tissue, b) whether the lithotripsy wa...

Abstract

A lithotripter is provided that includes a lithotripsy apparatus for treatment of a urinary tract stone by fragmentation. The lithotripsy apparatus includes a lithotripsy wave guide shaft configured to transmit an energy form to at least one urinary tract stone. The lithotripter includes a sensing device configured to provide signal data for determining optimal application of energy during treatment with the lithotripsy apparatus. The lithotripter includes a processor configured to collect the signal data and provide feedback to a user. The processor has a control logic configured to determine at least one of: a) if the lithotripsy wave guide shaft is in contact with a tissue; b) if the lithotripsy wave guide shaft is in contact with a stone; c) type of stone; d) if a user is applying force in excess of a predetermined threshold; and e) physical characteristics of a stone. A method is also provided.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 904,214, filed November 14, 2013, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to a medical device and method, and more particularly to a lithotripsy machine and a method for disintegrating calculus in a patient's body. Background technique [0004] The statements in this section merely provide background information related to the present disclosure and may or may not constitute prior art. [0005] Lithotripsy is a common procedure used to break up stones or calculi in the urinary tract, kidneys and / or bladder. Most lithotripsy devices use ultrasound, laser, or pneumatic energy sources to break up such stones into smaller pieces that can be more easily removed from the patient's urinary system. Typically, a rock crusher includes a shaft connected to an electrically controlled drive or a pne...
