The active component comprises, by weight, 4 to 8 parts of imidacloprid, 3 to 6 parts of thiabendazole, 2 to 4 parts of uniconazole, 2 to 5 parts of plant growth inhibitor, 8 to 12 parts of dispersant, 0.2 to 0.8 part of trace element fertilizer solution, and 0.2 to 0.6 part of anti-freezing agent. The seed potato coating agent is effective in controlling dry rot and basal stem rot in the potato and is low in cost; the seed potato coating agent is effective in supplementing trace elements such as molybdenum and boron, adjusting growth and development of the potato, improving availability of soil fertilizers and increasing the yield. The seed potato coating agent reaches the standards of like domestic products in terms of stability, film-forming ability and coating strength. By the use of the seed potato coating agent, occurrence rates of the dry rot and basal stem rot in the potato are minimized to 2.8% and 3.2%, respectively.
