The preparation method comprises steps as follows: (1) preparation of a coating agent; (2) coating; (3) mixing of products with different release curves. The invention further relates to an application of the sustained-release raw hide swelling agent to a leather alkaline swelling technology. The sustained-release raw hide swelling agent has the advantages as follows: (1) the sustained-release raw hide swelling agent is proper in dissolution speed, controllable in hydrolysis degree, slow and uniform in fiber swelling and suitable for a liming process of various leather, including upper leather; (2) the lime consumption in the liming process is very low, so that sludge during liming is effectively reduced, and the requirement for clean production of leather is met; (3) a hair saving and removing agent is combined for use, so that sodium sulfide or sodium hydrosulfide can be omitted during liming, the sulfide pollution is reduced, and liming waste liquids are easy to filter, recover and recycle.
