Abstract

The invention provides a method and a system for judging ground faults of medium and high voltage overhead transmission lines. The system comprises a line fault indicator with an iron core. The line fault indicator is connected with a feeder terminal unit (FTU) which is connected with a primary station. The method for judging the ground faults includes that (1) if direct current voltage value is lowered to a set value, ground faults occur, the line fault indicator gives an alarm to the FTU through wireless signals, and the FTU sends alarm signals to the primary station through general packet radio service (GPRS) or code division multiple access (CDMA); and (2) if the direct current voltage value is not lowered to the set value, the ground faults do not occur, and the line fault indicator sends no alarm. The system and the method can detect variation conditions of the medium and high voltage overhead transmission lines in real time. By detecting voltage variation and matching with line current variation, the system and the method can judge the ground faults accurately, send the alarm to the primary station through a remote transmission device, are convenient in electric power dispatching management, find the faults timely, isolate the faults, and solve the faults.
