Embodiment Construction

[0024] Easy to apply athletic shoe sole coatings have been formulated to provide athletes with better traction and grip on hard floor surfaces (eg, basketball courts, volleyball courts, etc.). The coating is intended to provide improved turning, stopping and reversing capabilities for athletes whose soles need to have a minimum level of stickiness to prevent slippage.

[0025] For the purposes of this application, the "snapability" or "snapability" of a shoe is when the user quickly changes direction, starts, stops or spins causing a spike in pressure on the sole and usually requiring additional Grip To prevent sliding on slippery surfaces, the ability of the sole to maintain grip on the surface.

[0026] In order to achieve these and other features and benefits, the sports shoe sole coating for enhanced traction of the present invention comprises film formers, binders and tackifiers in a state capable of being applied to a surface by a suitable delivery mechanism. mixture. ...

Abstract

A sports shoe coating for enhancing traction comprising a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) and a tackifier resin and a film former in solution initially in a solvent, suitable for application in liquid form to shoe soles On the surface, for example by spraying, rolling and brushing the solution onto shoe soles. After the solvent has evaporated, the film or coating adheres or bonds to the sole, and when pressure and shear forces are applied to the coating, the film or coating exhibits properties that dynamically improve the traction of the sole. This modification allows the outer surface of the film or coating to "renew" the exposed surface when impacted. This imparts sustained tack over long-term use. Impact modifiers for controlled release of solvents may be added to temporarily dissolve or soften the film or coating, thereby facilitating this renewal of the outer surface of the coating.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application is related to, and claims priority from, Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 358,553, filed June 25, 2010. technical field [0003] The present invention relates generally to athletic shoes and, more particularly, to coatings applied to the soles of athletic shoes for enhancing traction. Background technique [0004] Special purpose shoes have been designed and used in connection with many sports activities such as basketball, tennis, volleyball and the like. These shoes are designed not only to provide support to the athlete, but also to enhance the "cutability" performance of the shoe when the athlete needs to "slam" on the shoe to stop, turn or reverse quickly. [0005] Indoor floor sports enthusiasts have one major complaint—dusty, dirty floor surfaces. Players use courses that range from a little dust to months of neglect. These conditions lead to a lack of traction at the most inoppor...
