Abstract

The present invention provides an analytical device (1) and method which are capable of repeatedly pumping a sample fluid (50) with one or more analytes through a substrate even when the wetted substrate has a relatively low bubble pressure (10), the substrate (10) has one or more attachment materials. Furthermore, the device (1) comprises a first cavity (16) and a second cavity (18), a return channel (22) provided with a valve (24) and a pump (20). The pump (20) can establish a pressure differential between the first cavity (16) and the second cavity (18) to pump the sample fluid (50) through the substrate (10), thereby allowing the analyte to adhere to the substrate superior. By opening the valve (24) and establishing an opposing pressure differential, the sample fluid (50) bypasses the substrate (10) through the return channel (22). After closing the valve, the device is ready for subsequent cycles, if required. The device and method can in principle analyze any volume of sample fluid and can use any type of substrate divided by bubble pressure, thus being more versatile and reliable.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to fluid handling, particularly in analytical devices or methods. Background technique [0002] Before describing the present invention in more detail, some background information that may assist in further understanding of the present invention is first provided. [0003] Analysis is usually performed in order to probe the quality and / or quantity of components of a (liquid) sample, in particular with regard to detecting the presence or amount of a particular DNA or RNA sequence or protein in the sample. Especially PCR, Polymerase Chain Reaction has greatly contributed to the development of all types of assays for detecting the presence of DNA, RNA sequences. Currently, DNA-containing samples can be collected from organisms to determine whether or how much a particular DNA sequence is present. Techniques can be used simultaneously to perform this multi-target sequence analysis, so-called multiplex detection of ...
