Abstract

A broadband wireless access communication system including a serving BS periodically broadcasting MOB_NBR-ADV messages to MSs and heterogeneous networks of different kinds. In order to communicate using neighboring base station (BS) information, the serving BS collects information on the neighboring BSs, and uses the collected information to determine whether a heterogeneous communication system exists. If the heterogeneous communication system exists, the serving BS includes information on the heterogeneous communication system in the MOB_NBR-ADV message, and broadcasts the MOB_NBR-ADV message to the MSS. If the MOB_NBR-ADV message is received from the serving BS, the MSS identifies whether a heterogeneous communication system exists by using the MOB_NBR-ADV message.
