Embodiment

[0018] Three dispersions were prepared with 2% methyl methacrylate, 0.08% sodium bis-(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate and vinyl acetate. Sodium metabisulfite and sodium persulfate were used as initiators. The other ingredients were added as indicated in Table 1. The weight percentages indicated are based on the total weight of the dispersion.

Abstract

A stable, heat resistant colloid stabilized waterbased bicomponent wood adhesive based on vinyl acetate and N-methylolacrylamide as a cross-linking agent and also including an aromatic and / or cyclo aliphatic monomer, such as 2-phenoxy ethyl acrylate and / or isobornyl methacrylate, and methyl methacrylate. The colloid system contains a high molecular weight partially hydrolyzed polyvinylalcohol and one or more intermediate hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohols.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention discloses a two-component wood adhesive with improved heat resistance and extended shelf life. Background technique [0002] N-methylolacrylamide-vinyl acetate polymer aqueous dispersions are widely used in the preparation of wood adhesives with strong adhesion, fast setting, colorless glue line and easy handling. Protective colloids are often added to prevent gelation during storage, thereby stabilizing the dispersion and improving water resistance. Previously prepared binders are commonly catalyzed with various acidic metal salts known in the art. Addition of catalysts such as aluminum chloride often destabilizes the binder without subsequent addition of other ingredients. Furthermore, the vinyl acetate based systems cannot meet heat resistance requirements, including WATT91 requirements, without the subsequent addition of certain coalescents such as diacetone alcohol. Therefore, there is a great need for a polymer that can b...
