Abstract

An apparatus and method for interfacing between a processor usable in data terminal equipment with communication applications, such as a computer, and a communication channel, the purpose of which is to use the computer processor without additional or redundant microprocessor or digital signal processor components provide data transmission and reception over the communication channel. The apparatus and method provide for data transmission between an interface device and a communication channel at a first, defined frequency corresponding to a particular data transmission rate. The apparatus and method provide for data transmission at a second, indeterminate frequency between a receiving apparatus and a processor, and by the computer processor between data transmission (or data reception) and data processing (e.g., modulation and demodulation) Intermediate data storage is provided in memory.
