An apparatus for detecting thermal runaway of a battery of an electric vehicle may include a battery module including a plurality of battery cells, each battery cell having a pouch body and a pair of electrode leads disposed at an end of the pouch body; the printed circuit board is mounted with a gas sensor for sensing the amount of gas discharged from the plurality of battery cells.
