Embodiment Construction

[0051] The aim of the present invention is to achieve high performance MOC cement products with advantages over those currently used in the construction industry.

[0052] The new invention is a novel silane-modified magnesia cement (SMMOC) cement composition, wherein the molecular structure of magnesium oxychloride hydroxide cement is effectively protected from dissolving in water. It was developed by adding reactive cationic organosilanes to MOC mixtures. Thus, the water solubility of MOCs is reduced by minimizing the chances of reactions between water and MOC molecules. Water resistance and corrosion resistance are thereby improved. Carbon sequestration is also minimized, thereby mitigating the degradation of SMMOCs over a long period of time. For this reason, the ingredients and the amount of hydrophobic agent are carefully calculated when preparing the wet stock composition to produce the most effective finished SMMOC.

[0053] The present inventors have learned that e...

Abstract

A magnesium oxychloride cement (MOC) incorporating an emulsion of active cationic organo-silane and a method of making the same.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to the field of building material manufacturing. In particular, the present invention relates to improved magnesium oxychloride cement (MOC), methods of making the same, methods of making articles therefrom, and articles made therefrom. Background technique [0002] Magnesium oxychloride hydroxide cement (MOC) (also known as magnesia cement or Sorel cement) is a non-hydraulic cement first made by Stanislaus Sorel in 1867. It has since found application in the construction industry. It contains light-burned magnesium oxide (MgO) and magnesium chloride (MgCl 2 ) aqueous solution, MgO and MgCl 2 The weight ratio of the solutions is 2.5:1 to 3.5:1. [0003] Compared with Portland cement products, MOC exhibits superior performance in terms of high strength, fire resistance and sound performance. However, non-hydraulic magnesium oxychloride cement (MOC) exhibits a lack of water resistance due to its hydrophilic behavior and "breath...
