[0121] Various canola species disclosed in U.S. Patent Publication No. US 2018 / 0016590 A1 are grown as summer crops. Seeds were harvested and then stored at room temperature prior to extrusion.

[0125] Pure fish oil contains low levels of ALA fatty acids and significantly higher levels of EPA and DHA. A reference oil blend (referred to herein as "crude triglyceride reference blend oil" or similar) was designed to be as similar in composition as possible to the filtered DHA canola oil obtained in Example 1. This was done by (a) matching the total amount of DHA to the total amount of DHA in canola oil, and (b) matching the ratio of DHA / (ALA+EPA). This is accomplished by blending DHA-enriched fish oil (tuna), ALA-enriched oil (linseed oil), and standard canola oil. The resulting reference blend also had a similar total omega-3 content to DHA canola oil.

There is provided a vegetable-based lipid composition comprising DHA, ALA, and oleic acid (typically as a fatty acid ester) in particular proportions.
