The vehicle flow calculating method comprises the steps that (1) a flow counting line is automatically generated; (2) fixed feature points are extracted; (3) an optical flow is tracked, specifically, the feature points serve as tracking starting points, speed information of all the feature points on the flow counting line is counted, and the speed information of the feature points on one flow countingline is generated and stored temporarily; (4) the motion direction and the motion speed are clustered; (5) the number of targets is increased, specifically, the step (3) and the step (4) are executedcircularly, the feature points of the flow counting line of a new frame of data are tracked, and speed information of feature points of a new flow counting line is generated; (6) uplink attribute information and downlink attribute information are counted; (7) the tracking direction is corrected; and (8) effective targets are classified.
