Abstract

The invention provides a vehicle obstacle avoidance method and a vehicle obstacle avoidance system based on machine vision. The obstacle avoidance method comprises the following steps: judging whether an obstacle exists in front of a micro vehicle by a processor by using a obstacle detection algorithm based on a single image; calibrating two cameras, determining the height of the obstacle through a stereoscopic vision method and transmitting height information to a controller by the processor; detecting conditions of vehicles in two adjacent lanes by distance measuring equipment to provide a running area for the vehicles to avoid the obstacle and change a lane and transmitting running area information to the controller; and according to the obtained information, transmitting a command to a operation and control module by the controller through using an adaptive lane change strategy to complete autonomous lane change of the vehicles. The obstacle avoidance method provided by the invention has the advantages of being stable, high in adaptive degree, fluent in vehicle obstacle avoidance posture and up to 98% in obstacle avoidance success rate.
