The invention discloses a gravity type heat pipe and direct evaporation cooler compound evaporating and cooling water chilling unit which comprises a direct evaporation cooler, wherein the direct evaporation cooler consists of a filling, a water tank arranged on the lower part of the filling and a water spraying device arranged on the upper part of the filling; the water tank is connected with the sensible heat tail end outside the unit through a pipeline; the sensible heat tail end is connected with the water spraying device through a pipeline; the upper part of the water tank and the left side and the right side of the filling are provided with tubular heat exchange devices with the same structure respectively; air inlets are formed on the side walls, corresponding to the lower parts ofthe two tubular heat exchange devices, of a housing of the unit; and air outlets are formed on the side walls, corresponding to the upper parts of the two tubular heat exchange devices, of the housing of the unit.
