Abstract

The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for key updating in a multimedia broadcast system. The method includes: a terminal creates a corresponding service key request message according to the identifier of a subscription suite and transmits said message to a Network Application Function (NAF) via a Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) gateway; after receiving the service key request message, the NAF, according to the suite identifier of said message, encapsulates the service keys of all the services in said suite into a key packet, and transmits a service key message carrying said key packet to the terminal via the WAP gateway; the terminal parses the received service key message, obtains said service keys and writes them into itself. The present invention pushes updated keys according to suites, wherein, the load for pushing keys only increases with the increase of the number of suites and the number of users and has no direct relation to the number of services, and therefore, the times for pushing service keys are greatly decreased and the bandwidth resource is saved.
