Embodiment approach 1

[0110] figure 1 It is a schematic diagram showing a home theater system using the recording medium according to Embodiment 1 of the present invention. This home theater system adopts a reproduction method of 3D video (stereoscopic video) using parallax video, and in particular, adopts a sequence separation method as a display method (see for details). refer to figure 1 , the home theater system regards the recording medium 101 as a reproduction object, and includes a reproduction device 102 , a display device 103 , shutter glasses 104 and a remote controller 105 .

[0111] The recording medium 101 is a read-only Blu-ray Disc (registered trademark) (BD: Blu-ray Disc), that is, a BD-ROM disc. The recording medium 101 may also be other removable recording media, for example, an optical disc based on other formats such as DVD, a removable hard disk drive (HDD), or a semiconductor memory device such as an SD memory card. The BD-ROM disc 101 which is the recording medium store...

Embodiment approach 2

[0664] Next, as Embodiment 2 of the present invention, a recording device and recording method based on the recording medium according to Embodiment 1 of the present invention will be described. This recording device is what is called a so-called authoring device. The authoring device is usually installed in a production studio (studio) of movie content for distribution, and is used by creators. According to the operation of the creator, the recording device first converts the movie content into an AV stream file which is a digital stream based on the MPEG standard compression encoding method. The recording device then generates a script. "Scenario" refers to information specifying the playback method of each title included in the movie content, and specifically includes the above-mentioned dynamic scenario information and static scenario information. The recording device then creates a volume image or update kit for the BD-ROM disc from the above-mentioned digital stream an...

Embodiment approach 3

[0691] Figure 74 It is a functional block diagram of the integrated circuit 3 according to Embodiment 3 of the present invention. refer to Figure 74 , the integrated circuit 3 is mounted in the playback device 102 of the first embodiment. Here, the playback device 102 includes a media interface (IF) unit 1 , a memory unit 2 , and an output terminal 10 in addition to the integrated circuit 3 .

[0692] The medium IF unit 1 receives or reads data from the external medium ME, and transmits the data to the integrated circuit 3 . In particular, this data has the same structure as the data on the BD-ROM disc 101 of the first embodiment. Types of media ME include disk recording media such as optical disks and hard disks, semiconductor memories such as SD cards and USB memories, broadcast waves such as CATV, and networks such as Ethernet (registered trademark), wireless LANs, and wireless public lines. The medium IF unit 1 includes a disk drive, a card IF, a CAN tuner, a Si tune...

Abstract

A reading unit reads an extent block from a recording medium in a reproducing device. A switch unit extracts a main view stream and a sub view stream from the extent block. The respective streams are stored in different read buffers. A decoding unit reads the respective streams from the respective read buffers and decodes the read streams. The time (t) required for the decoding unit to decode all data blocks in one extent block is greater than or equal to the total of the following three times (t1, t2, t3): the time (t1) required for the reading unit to read data blocks other than a data block at the head of the one extent block; the time (t2) required from when the reading unit finishes reading the end of the one extent block until the reading unit starts to read the head of the next extent block; and the time (t3) required for the reading unit to read a data block at the head of the next extent block.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a technique for reproducing stereoscopic images, that is, three-dimensional (3D) images, and more particularly to a file structure of streaming data on a recording medium. Background technique [0002] The general interest in 3D imaging has grown in recent years. For example, attractions using 3D images are gaining popularity in amusement parks. In addition, movie theaters showing 3D video movies are also increasing all over the country. As interest in such 3D video images has increased, research and development of technologies capable of reproducing 3D video images in individual homes has also been advanced. In this technique, it is required to record 3D video content on a removable recording medium such as an optical disc while maintaining high image quality. In addition, such recording media are required to be compatible with 2D playback devices. That is, it is expected that a 2D playback device can play back 2D ...
