Embodiment 1
[0080] The nose clip of the present invention was formed as described in the "Nose Clip Manufacturing Procedure" section mentioned above. A preform having the configuration of Figure 7 was cut from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film. Attach preform to 3M 8210 using pressure sensitive tape TM On the main body of the respirator (without the standard metal nose clip), the pressure sensitive tape was Scotch 300LSE High Strength, available from 3M Company, St. Paul, MN. Apply this pressure sensitive tape over the entire underside of the preform to secure it to the mask. After the preform is attached to the mask, it is molded into a predetermined shape when it is mounted on the mask body. The pre-form was formed into a nose clip using the forming tool shown in FIG. 9 . The preform was molded at a temperature of about 88°C with a clamping force of about 10 Newtons applied for about 5 to 6 seconds. Cool the nose clip to about 60°C for 5 to 6 minutes while forming on the tool. ...
Embodiment 2
[0082] The nose clip of the present invention was formed as described in the "Nose Clip Manufacturing Procedure" section mentioned above. A preform having the shape of Figure 7 was cut from the PET film. Join the preform to the 3M 8511 using ultrasonic welding TM on the main body of the respirator. As shown in FIG. 7, the preform is welded to the mask at points extending inwardly from the ends 34 and 36 along the beta dimension. After the pre-form is attached to the mask, the pre-form is molded into a predetermined shape using a molding tool 74 as shown in FIG. 9 . Molding was performed at a temperature of about 88°C with a clamping force of about 10 Newtons applied for 5 to 6 seconds. While the nose clip is in the tool, cool it to about 60°C for 5 to 6 minutes. The TILs of the three masks made in this manner were evaluated. The resulting TILs for the three masks worn on three individuals were 1.6%, 0.2%, and 6.6%, respectively.
Embodiment 3
[0084] The nose clip of the present invention was formed as described in the "Nose Clip Manufacturing Procedure" section mentioned above. Preforms having the configuration shown in Figure 10 were cut from PET film. Join the preform to the 3M 8511 using ultrasonic welding TM On the main body of the respirator (no standard metal nose clip). As shown in Figure 8, the preform is welded to the mask at points extending inwardly from the ends 34 and 36 along the Σ dimension. After the preform is attached to the mask, the preform is molded in the on the mask. While the nose clip is in the tool, cool the nose clip to about 60°C for 5 to 6 minutes. The mask of this example had good face fitting properties.
