Embodiment Construction

[0036] will now refer to the attached Figure 1~5 A preferred embodiment of a filter cartridge embodying various aspects of the invention is described. and Figure 1~5 A first embodiment of a cartridge-compatible filter base assembly shown is Figure 6-11 shown. and Figure 1~5 A second embodiment of a filter base assembly compatible with the cartridge shown is Figures 12 to 15 shown.

[0037] figure 1 is a cross-sectional view of an exemplary filter cartridge 10 including a first housing portion 12 joined to a second housing portion 14 along a peripheral roll seam 16 . Figure 4 shows from figure 1 An enlarged sectional view of the rolling interface 16 viewed on the left. Such as figure 1 As shown, the metal sheets forming each shell part of the rolling interface are indicated by dotted lines on the left and right sides of the filter cartridge 10 near the rolling interface. The projecting metal sheet of the first housing part 12 extends radially beyond the projecti...

Abstract

A filter cartridge uses radially inwardly and outwardly displaced portions (22, 24) of a peripheral rolled interface (16) on a filter cartridge (10) as components of a cartridge compatible model. The resulting coiled rolled interface (16) forms a canonical structure that mates with a compatible configured filter base (40, 80). The outward or inward contour of the wrap-around roll interface (16) may be used to impede receipt of an incompatible filter cartridge (10). The number, configuration and location of the inwardly and outwardly displaced portions (22, 24) on the rolled interface (16) can be varied to provide a variety of unique compatible models.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to fuel filters for use in connection with internal combustion engines, and more particularly to replaceable fuel filter cartridges for removing foreign particles and / or separating water from a fuel supply system of an internal combustion engine. Background technique [0002] The fuel filter systems to which the present invention relates typically utilize disposable filter cartridges that can be replaced at predetermined filter life cycles. The replaceable filter cartridge is typically secured to a base that forms inlet and outlet connections between the filter cartridge and the fuel supply system. A number of retaining systems are used to secure the filter cartridge to the base and allow removal of the filter cartridge for replacement purposes. [0003] In practice, filter cartridge requirements may vary depending on: the type and configuration of the internal combustion engine; the particular application in wh...
