Problems solved by technology

[0003] As data rates increase, an insurmountable problem is the physical limitations of the medium used to transmit the signal
For example, passive cables are cost-effective for shorter distances, but as signal frequencies increase, passive cables tend to be limited in distance
Active copper and fiber optic cables are great for transmitting signals over longer distances, but require power and can often create thermal issues if the connector system is not properly designed
However, one of the major concerns with the increased use of active cable assemblies is the increased thermal load of placing such cable assemblies for use on the connector system
Trying to cool a Quad Small Form-Factor Pluggable Double Density (QSFP-DD) transceiver module placed inside the enclosure is relatively challenging

Embodiment Construction

[0014] The following detailed description describes exemplary embodiments and is not intended to be limited to the expressly disclosed combinations. Therefore, unless otherwise stated, various features disclosed herein may be combined together to form additional multiple combinations not shown for the sake of brevity.

[0015] An input / output (I / O) connector 20 includes a conductive housing 22 into which a quad small form-factor pluggable double density (QSFP-DD) transceiver module 24 is inserted. The QSFP-DD transceiver module 24 forms a main electromagnetic containment, and the cover 22 forms a conductive sleeve surrounding the QSFP-DD transceiver module 24 . The housing 22 and the QSFP-DD transceiver module 24 form an embedded assembly, which may include a mating connector (not shown) towards the distal extent of the connector 20 . The QSFP-DD transceiver module 24 accommodates a fiber optic cable (not shown).

[0016] Such as figure 2 As shown, the housing 22 includes:...

Abstract

A Quad Small Form Factor-Double Density Pluggable (QSFP-DD) transceiver module which complies with the accepted specifications of the Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable Double Density (QSFP-DD) Multi Source Agreement (MSA) group has a body, a paddle card mounted in the body, and a plurality of conductive fins extending upwardly from top and bottom walls of the body. The QSFP-DD transceiver module isinsertable into a cage and is configured to mate with mating connector in the cage and with a fiber optic cable. The conductive fins do not seat within the cage. The conductive fins dissipate heat generated by convection.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of input / output (IO) connectors and, more particularly, to a pluggable transceiver module in the form of a Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable Double Density (QSFP-DD) transceiver module suitable for high data rate applications . Background technique [0002] Input / Output (I / O) connectors are commonly used in applications requiring high bandwidth and are often used to provide connections between boxes or racks of computers, routers, and switches. One common form of I / O connector is the Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable Double Density (QSFP-DD) connector. Therefore, this connector includes a transceiver module and a housing defined by standard bodies, so no matter what the supplier is, it can provide reliable performance. [0003] As data rates increase, an insurmountable problem is the physical limitations of the medium used to transmit the signal. For example, passive cables are cost-effective for shorter dist...
