The invention provides an orthodontic arch wire bending detection method and system, and the method comprises the steps: enabling a reference arch wire and a bent arch wire to be placed on an acquisition platform, and enabling an arch wire optical image acquisition module to collect images of the reference arch wire and the bent arch wire; transmitting collected image information of the referencearch wire and the bent arch wire to the data analysis module; using the data analysis module to carry out quantitative analysis on the acquired image information of the reference arch wire and the bent arch wire; obtaining binary segmentation images of the reference arch wire and the bent arch wire, obtaining overlook curves of the reference arch wire and the bent arch wire, further establishing acoordinate system, and calculating position coordinates of reference points on the overlook curves of the reference arch wire and the bent arch wire; and calculating the standard degree of the bent arch wire through a root-mean-square error method. The method and system have the advantages of being wide in practical range, high in detection accuracy, independent of personal experience, high in adaptability, easy to operate and high in flexibility.
