Abstract

The present invention provides an active equalization architecture and method for a battery management system. The active equalization architecture for the battery management system includes a batterypack cluster including a plurality of battery packs connected in series, a plurality of battery management units correspondingly connected to the battery packs one by one, a battery pack control unitwhich is connected to the battery management units which are connected to the battery packs in the same battery pack cluster, and a battery cluster control unit which is connected to the battery packcontrol unit and the battery pack cluster. The active equalization method for the battery management system includes the steps of (S1) obtaining cell voltage values of batteries in the battery pack and performing intra-pack equalization according to a preset rule, and (S2) calculating a cell average value of the entire battery pack cluster, comparing cells with a highest positive deviation and ahighest negative deviation, and performing inter-pack equalization if a difference value exceeds a second value. According to the invention, the consistency of thousands of batteries in an operating environment in a container can be ensured, and therefore, the discharge capacity of an entire container energy storage system is increased.
