Abstract

By processing the training sequence according to the transformation matrix, the overhead associated with downlink channel estimation in massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) networks can be reduced. The transformation matrix maps a generic dictionary to a non-generic dictionary associated with the antenna geometry of the MIMO antenna array. The transformation matrix can be calculated based on these two dictionaries. In an embodiment, the training reference signal is precoded to obtain a precoded training reference signal, and then the precoded training reference signal is sent through a MIMO antenna array.
