Problems solved by technology

However, the cost, time, security concerns and complexity of doing so would be cumbersome to the point of being downright impractical
[0012] In conclusion, what is needed and what is lacking in the existing technology is that oil and gas producers use the developed sulfur deposition prediction model

Embodiment

[0051] The following examples are provided to better illustrate embodiments of the invention, but should not be construed as limiting the scope of the invention.

[0052] In these examples, five test runs were performed, and the test gas used for each test run was methane (CH4). As shown in Table 1 (below), the test temperature was varied between 30°C and 70°C and the test pressure was varied between 300 psia and 1000 psia for five test runs. The high temperature water bath (first station) was set to 85°C, and the test temperature water bath (second station) was set to the required test temperature (see Table 1 for the test temperature of each run). The pressure of the system was also set to the desired test pressure (see Table 1 for test pressures for each run).

[0053] Each test run was performed using the following scheme (see figure 1 ):

[0054] First turn on the tube heating (heat controller). Next, evaluate the three water baths to make sure the water levels are co...

Abstract

Provided herein are a method and system for measuring the solubility of sulfur in a test gas, comprising flowing the test gas into a first conduit (112) that is packed with elemental sulfur and maintained at an elevated temperature, introducing the test gas containing elemental sulfur into a second conduit (116) that is maintained at a lower temperature lower, flowing the test gas into a third conduit (120) of which a portion (124) is maintained at a cold temperature sufficient to result in deposition of the elemental sulfur, and calculating the sulfur solubility based on the deposited amountof elemental sulfur.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to methods and devices for collecting small quantities (sub-milligram levels) of elemental sulfur (or other trace elements, such as mercury) from gases found in typical petroleum production environments or with expected sulfur deposition The ppm levels of elemental sulfur (or other trace elements such as mercury) deposited in problematic gas streams and in industries other than oil and gas are deposited. Appropriate analytical chemistry techniques for determining the amount of sulfur collected are used, and from this result the solubility of sulfur in the gas at a fixed temperature, pressure and gas composition can be calculated. Background technique [0002] Sulfur management remains an ongoing issue in sour gas and natural gas operations. In many sour gas operations, elemental sulfur vapor in the gas can condense and deposit at various locations along the sour gas system, which can cause a number of problems. For exam...
