Embodiment Construction

[0010] The systems and methods described below relate to enabling an overlay architecture that uses aggregated bandwidth to accelerate Internet / cloud (hereinafter Internet) content delivery and improve user experience. The architecture enables Internet-to-end-user communications via relay nodes, which provide scalability, robustness, and improved performance in terms of bandwidth and latency. The architecture relies on the relatively new Multipath Transmission Control Protocol (MPTCP) build that splits connection flows to take advantage of path diversity. In the methods disclosed herein, MPTCP enables connectivity between the vehicle telematics unit and the consumer device as if the consumer device were part of the telematics unit.

Abstract

A collaborative multipath TCP is provided. A system and method are provided for establishing a multipath connection between two endpoints. The method includes establishing a connection between a first of the two endpoints and one or more consumer devices, creating a virtual network interface in the first of the two endpoints for each of the one or more consumer devices connected to the first of the two endpoints, and transferring packets from the first of the two endpoints through each virtual network interface to a second of the two endpoints.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to connecting a vehicle to the Internet, and more particularly to enabling concurrent data flow between the vehicle and the Internet by utilizing one or more consumer devices. Background technique [0002] Most vehicles are now equipped with hardware such as a telematics unit that enables various wireless communications, including connection to the Internet or the cloud. The telematics unit can act as a wireless access point between the vehicle's infotainment system and the Internet via a wireless carrier system (eg, a cellular network). As demand for streaming data such as video over these connections began to grow, bandwidth availability was quickly constrained. Contents of the invention [0003] According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method for establishing a multipath connection between two endpoints is provided. The method includes establishing a connection between a first of the two endpoints and ...
