The formula is characterized by comprising components of: 20g of each of stamen nelumbinis, sparrow droppings, wild chrysanthemum flower, and polygala tenuifolia; 18g of each of notopterygium root, folium isatidis, blighted wheat and dried orange peel; 15g of each of fructus tribuli, sharpleaf galangal fruit, and motherwort fruit; 12g of each of dried radix rehmanniae, rheum officinale, fructus forsythia, and schizonepeta; 10g of each of mulberry leaf, raw artemisia argyi, and raw rhubarb; 8g of each of cordate houttuynia, arisaema heterophyllum, and rhizoma arundinis donacis; and 5g of isatis root. An application method comprises: grinding the medicinal materials into fine powder according to a ratio; adding a proper amount of honey for uniform mixing; externally applying 10g of the mixed medicine to a temple ipsilateral to the eye with viral keratitis, and covering the temple with gauze; and changing the medicine once a day. One treatment course is five days. According to the invention, problems that the existing conventional traditional Chinese medicine formula for treating viral keratitis is unsatisfactory in a therapeutic effect and long in therapy time; the viral keratitis is hard to cure and easily recurs; and there will be a risk of blindness for improper use of the medicine are overcome.
