Abstract

The invention discloses a manufacturing method for milling a free-end surface by utilizing a ball-end cutter and belongs to the technical field of CAD (computer-aided design) / CAM (computer-aided manufacturing). The method includes: measuring cutting width of the position of any cutting contact points on a curved surface in a tensor mode; structuring a second-order tensor field of the cutting width; extracting three-point degradation points in the tensor field and searching internal boundary points of the curved surface by taking the three-point degradation points as a starting point to divide manufacturing areas of the curved surface, wherein each area is defined to be one curved-surface manufacturing feature. Multiple curves are structured in each curved-surface manufacturing feature, so that tangent direction of each point on the curves is ensured to be superposed with the largest feeding direction of cutting width of the point, the curve with the largest average cutting width is selected to be an initial machining line in the area, and tool paths of the curves are calculated by adopting an offset initial machining line to acquire machining paths of the whole curves. By the manufacturing method, the generated tool paths can be ensured to conform to the regional distribution rule corresponding to the feeding direction of the largest cutting width in the scope of the curved surface, length of the tool paths is reduced, and machining efficiency is improved.
