Abstract

A fault detection system comprises a host and an SAS expander. The SAS expander is connected with the host through an exposed SAS interface connector and comprises a microcontroller, a sideband port, a smart port and an SAS expansion chip, wherein the microcontroller, the sideband port, the smart port and the SAS expansion chip are arranged in the SAS expander, the microcontroller is connected with the SAS interface connector, the sideband port and the smart port, and the smart port is connected with the SAS expansion chip. In the normal state, the microcontroller selectively starts the sideband port to execute normal data transmission.
