[0029] Embodiments described herein relate to controlling a compression ignition engine and aftertreatment of exhaust gases produced by the engine. Specifically, some embodiments relate to controlling compression-ignition engines such that when the engine is running producing power at or near its capacity, NO x emissions. Additionally, some embodiments relate to improving the transient response required for compression ignition engines with exhaust gas recirculation when increasing power, and limiting emissions of nitrogen and oxygen compounds.
