Abstract

The invention discloses a processing method for the traditional Chinese medicine--Chinese yam. The method comprises the following steps: 1) when the aerial part of Chinese yam withers in the last ten-day period of October, dismantling a support, cutting down vines and collecting yam bean; and 2) soaking Chinese yam in water for 1 d, clearing soil, taking Chinese yam out, peeling Chinese yam with a bamboo knife or tile, putting a basket into a fumigating Kang, carrying out fumigating with sulphur (0.5 to 0.8 kg of sulphur for each 100 kg of fresh Chinese yam) for 20 to 30 h, taking Chinese yam out for solarization (or baking) after disappearance of water and softening of Chinese yam, stopping solarization (or baking) when the cortex of Chinese yam becomes slightly hard, stacking Chinese yam in a stuffy basket for 2 to 3 d, carrying out solarization (or baking) again and repeating solarization (or baking) and stacking several times to totally dry Chinese yam. Temperature has to be strictly controlled during baking on a fire, 40 to 50 DEG C is proper, so Chinese yam is protected from singeing or the interior of Chinese yam is prevented from becoming red and hollow.
