Embodiment Construction

[0028]As stated above, it is an object of the present invention to provide a novel polymer co-network composition suitable for any one of a number of biomedical applications, from wound closure and skin tissue healing to use in surgical incisions sealants and sealants for surgical incisions and punctures in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. The composition is a co-network comprising 2-n-octyl-cyanoacrylate (Oct-OA) and cyanoacrylate-terminated tri-telechelic polyisobutylene of copolymers. When the starting liquid raw material mixture is sprayed, smeared or otherwise applied to wounds or surgical incisions, Oct-OA and Polymerization is rapidly initiated through skin, blood, or other living (or dead) tissue. In one embodiment, the composition may be a sprayed coating or film that quickly sets into a strong rubber protective barrier. The nucleophilic groups (-OH, -NH 2 etc.) is actually the "catalyst" of this polymerization reaction, that is, the medium that initiate...

Abstract

A polymer conetwork formed from the polymerization reaction of octyl-cyanoacrylate and a tri-telechelic star polymer comprising poiyisobutyiene terminated with cyanoacrylate groups (O(PIB-CA)3), wherein the ratio of octyl cyanoacrylate to O(PIB-CA)3 is from about 10: 1 to about 40: 1.

Description

[0001] Cross Reference Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority from U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 441,813, filed February 11, 2011, and U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 559,778, filed November 15, 2011. Both are hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] This invention relates to a polyisobutylene-based co-network, and more particularly, to a poly(octyl cyanoacrylate)-polyisobutylene co-network. In addition to the polymer co-network, the present invention also provides a method for preparing the polymer co-network, and some applications of the polymer co-network. Background of the invention [0004] Sealants for wounds and surgical incisions are in great demand in biomedical applications including orthopedic practice. These sealants are thought to range from those used for skin wound healing and wound suturing, to those used to permanently seal scalpel incisions and puncture wounds caused by large bore injection...
