Problems solved by technology

Unfortunately, it is often the case that due to the limitations of the video conferencing technology used, the identification of the speaker by the participants is delayed or becomes impossible
For example, the video screen may be too small or of poor quality, and participants may not be able to perceive the movement of the remote participant's lips or his body language
Also, the directionality of the sound may be lost as it is reproduced at a remote location

Embodiment Construction

[0011] In a typical face-to-face meeting, it is usually straightforward and easy for listening participants to determine which participant is currently speaking. There is a need for a videoconferencing system that simulates this conventional recognition task in the context of videoconferencing. However, even if the listening participant can tell who is speaking, he may not know the speaker's name and title. There is also a need for a system for presenting personally identifiable information of the current speaker in a video conferencing environment.

[0012] The present application discloses methods and systems that satisfy these needs and include other advantageous features. In a particular embodiment, a video conferencing device is described as presenting personal information of a current speaker based on user-defined input parameters in combination with calculated identification parameters. The calculated recognition parameters include, but are not limited to, parameters ...

Abstract

The present application relates to displaying dynamic caller identity during point-to-point and multipoint audio / video conference. A method for efficiently determining and displaying pertinent information determined from multiple input and calculated parameters associated with a videoconference call. The method for efficiently determining and displaying this personal information is performed using input from the user at an endpoint and calculated information throughout the videoconference to present personal information, about the currently speaking person, to all participants. Videoconferencing systems are typically used by multiple people at multiple locations. The method of this disclosure allows for more user interaction and knowledge transfer amongst the participants. By sharing information between the different locations participants are more aware of who is speaking at any given time and the importance to be applied to what that particular person is saying.

Description

technical field [0001] This application relates generally to the field of video conferencing. More specifically and without limitation, the present application relates to methods of identifying a current speaker and presenting information about the current speaker in an information box in a video conferencing environment. Background technique [0002] In modern business organizations, it is not uncommon for groups with geographically dispersed individuals to participate in video conferences instead of meeting face-to-face. Companies and organizations are increasingly using video conferencing to reduce travel costs and save time. However, video conferencing systems do not perfectly simulate what attendees might expect during a typical face-to-face meeting with other attendees, which can negate financial and time savings. Important sensory information that the face-to-face meeting participants themselves undervalue (take for granted) can be significantly missing during video...
